WADDESDON MANOR AT CHRISTMAS - with lunch at The Five Arrows Hotel
Wednesday 04 December 2019

Waddesdon Manor was built by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild between 1874  and 1885 to display his collection of arts and to entertain the fashionable world.  It opened to the public in 1959 and is home to the Rothschild Collections of painting, sculpture and decorative arts.

The decorated East Wing and Bachelors’ Wing this year takes inspiration from traditional carols to contemporary Christmas songs with dazzling decorations and trees sparkling with lights.  An amazing light installation can be seen in the Coach House and the gardens illuminated with sparkling lights and colour.  Christmas stalls indulging in celebratory foods to tempt you and the Manor’s façade bathed in light with two unique shows.

We first lunch at the Five Arrows Hotel – a Grade II listed building at the gates of Waddesdon Manor, built on the site of an old Coaching Inn.  Its name is derived from the Rothschild family emblem of a shield surmounted by five arrows, pointing upward and tied with a ribbon.  Built in 1887 as part of the Waddesdon Estate and architecturally it is one of the most striking buildings in the village.
